Virginia M. “Birdie” Garrigan age “101” of Coleman, WI formerly of Lena, WI passed away July 21, 2019 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Oconto Falls, WI. She was born August 22, 1917 in Lena, WI to Ralph and Louise (Ducat) Hansel. The oldest of five children she grew up on the family farm watching her younger siblings from a young age. She married Walter Neta, they lived in Lena and were business owners in Town. They moved to 5 corners in 1944 starting a Tavern business. Walter died in 1951. On her birthday in 1954, she married Jim Garrigan and they continued to run the bar. She was well known for her Friday fish fries, serving many plates every week for all the years in business. After Jim’s death in 1993, she finally retired at the age 75. Birdie is survived by three sons: Jim (Colleen) Garrigan, John Michael and Jake (Cathy Severtson) Neta; eighteen grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren; also three sisters in law: Joyce Shallow, Sharon Garrigan and Kate (Ken) Cisar; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Walter Neta and Jim Garrigan; son Nyle Neta and daughter Nathalie Davis; sisters: Ruby, Stella, Ella and brother Bob; three grandchildren and one great grandson. The family will greet relatives and friends Wednesday July 24 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 12 noon at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Coleman. The Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home in Coleman assisting the family.
