John died suddenly Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in Santa Cruz, after suffering an apparent heart attack.
John Edward Ramsay was born Nov. 16, 1944, in Davenport, to Robert and Jeanette (Geest) Ramsay. He married Faye Erickson in Iowa.
John had received his master's degree and was working towards completing his doctorate.
He was a Marine Corps veteran.
Bob Lewis Volkswagen, San Jose, Calif., employed John as a salesperson. His children were the most important things in his life. He had a zest for life and was always upbeat. He was very adventuresome and enjoyed trying new and exciting trends and hobbies. He was a very experienced and avid scuba diver. He was a volunteer for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where he would share narrative talks and tours. Memorials may be made to Monterey Bay Aquarium, in John's memory.
Survivors include his children, Genevieve Ramsay and John E. Ramsay, who resided with their mother in Des Moines; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Lawrence Hatfield, Davenport; half brothers and a half sister, Robert Ramsay, Bettendorf, James Ramsay, Davenport, Marilyn Panozzo, Davenport, and Craig Ramsay, Davenport; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Ramsay, and his mother, Jeanette Ramsay-Roman.
