Mrs. Efton (Lalla Dean) Carroll, retired school teacher and lifelong Gatesville resident, died Saturday in the local hospital. She was 63.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday in Scott's Funeral Home chapel with Bill Dodd, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, and B. E. Latham officiating. Burial was in City Cemetery.
Mrs. Carroll retired as a teacher in the academic school at the Gatesville State School in 1976. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. V. (Vick) McBride, she was born July 18, 1915, in Coryell County and was reared in Gatesville. She was married to W. E. (Efton) Carroll in Gatesville on Sept. 23, 1933. They lived here all their married life.
Mrs. Carroll, who held a bachelor's degree from Mary Hardin-Baylor University and a master's degree from Baylor University, taught in Coryell County schools for 33 years. The last 20 of those years, she was a member of the State School's faculty.
She was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a pianist and a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Mrs. Carroll is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Helen Ruth) Cox of Lubbock and Mrs. Larry (Cynthia Dean) Rively of San Antonio; one brother, Dudley McBride of Austin; and three grandchildren, Deana June Cox, Nicole Rively and Denise Rively.
A daughter, Mary Dell Carroll, died in 1936 and a son, Charles Efton Carroll, died in 1938.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Carroll's funeral were Jack Morse, Jack Wicker, Bob Lee, Raby Baker, Charles Reeve and Herman Sims.
