Orie Shriner was born at Riverdale, Kansas in 1916, to Archer and Matilda(Swan) Shriner. He attended country school in Sumner County. Besides helping at home, he did farm work for neighbors. His mother died when he was ten years old. In 1926 his father married Sylvia Cullison. Orie entered the Armed Services in 1942 and was in the 20th Coast Artillery. He was sent to Hawaii in January 1945. He had the rank of Corporal when he was honorably discharged in 1946. While he was in Hawaii, his parents moved to Medicine Lodge, in 1944. Orie Shriner and Eleanor Synder were married September 22, 1949. Eleanor was born in Barber County, at the farm home 9 miles west of Hardtner until the family moved to Medicine Lodge in 1940. Eleanor graduated from MLHS in 1948. Orie worked at National Gypsum Mill from 1946 when he returned from the Army, until he retired in 1978. He also worked with the Boy Scouts about 20 years and received the Order of the Arrow. The Orie Shriners have six children. They are: Robert, Margaret, Linda, Michael, Brenda, and Janet. Robert, born in 1951, is living at Silver Cliff, Colorado. He was in Boy Scouts and received his God and Country Award from the United Methodist Church in 1964 - his Eagle Scout Award in 1966. He graduated from MLHS in 1969; from Dodge City Community College in 1972, with a major in music; from Fort Hays State College in 1975. He has worked for Western Geophysical and Century Companies. In his extra time he is a carpenter. Margaret, born in 1953, lives in Medicine Lodge. She was a Girl Scout and received the First Class Award and earned her God and Community Award in Scouts. She graduated from high school in 1971 and married Dale Robert Walker in 1971. They have three children: Dale Robert, Jr., Katherine Marie, and David Lee. The Walkers are members of the Christian Church. Linda, born in 1955, lives on a ranch southeast of Coldwater. She was in Girl Scouts and graduated from high school in 1975. She married Delmar Snyder in June, 1975. Michael, 'Mike,' born in 1959, was a Boy Scout and received his God and County Award from the United Methodist Church. In high school, he was in band, track and cross country. Mike was employed by Cliff Angle and Dale Chain at the Gyp Hill Meat Processing Inc. He graduated from high school in 1978. Mike joined the Navy in March, 1979, and is in training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. Brenda, born in 1962, is a junior in high school. In 1978 her cast of one act plays won a first at the State Forensics Meet. She was in Girl Scouts and Rainbow Girls. Janet was born in 1969 and is attending school in Attica.
