Alberta Kay Rhinehart, 74, of Fruitland, Idaho, died at Payette Care Center after a long battle with cancer. She bravely fought for three years before going to be with her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her husband and loving family.

Our Angel, Our Mother, Our Friend
Heaven called for you today and Angels came and flew you away.
We cried out in grief as tears of loss streaked down our face.
Here on Earth we were blessed by God's good grace, an Angel came.
Given to us as a Daughter, Wife, Mother, and Friend.
The memories will swamp us now.
Good times we spent with you.
You were filled with compassion.
Your love we never questioned.
And you never passed judgment.
Our loss of you runs deep as Angels came and flew you away.

Alberta was born February 2, 1937 in Newell, South Dakota, to Paul W. Barber and Ruby A. (Johnson) Barber. When Alberta was just an infant, her grandfather, father, and uncle bought 160 acres of sagebrush covered property northwest of Ontario, OR. The family packed up and left South Dakota on April 25, 1937. Alberta spent the rest of her life in Western Idaho. Alberta attended school on the Oregon Slope.

She married her best friend's brother, John Clifton Rhinehart, on July 11, 1955 in Winnemucca, NV. Alberta and John had six children. She worked a few years at American Fine Foods in Payette, and then also at Ore-Ida in Ontario, OR.

She quit working after her sixth child was born and became a full-time mother. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She was affectionately known to family and friends as "Bert or Bertie." She always opened her home to anyone in need and often took in friends and relatives.

Alberta loved to watch wrestling and American Idol. Friday nights was always card night and all were invited to come play mom's favorite games, Russian Rummy and Hate Your Neighbor. It was a time of fun and laughter.

But her favorite pastime was spending time with family. Christmas Eve was a traditional day for all her children and grandchildren to gather at her home to celebrate together. Her grandchildren were a large part of her everyday thoughts and life. Every one of them loved going to grandma's house where you could eat dessert first, and the word "NO" was no longer in anyone's vocabulary.

She loved going to the Oregon Coast on vacations with her children and grandchildren. The ocean was one of her favorite places even when it rained. She was an amazing cook and always made way too much food, just in case someone stopped by. Her grandchildren will never forget her chocolate cakes and many hugs.

Mom would always say "George Strait is the only man I would leave your father for." Her favorite movies were Pure Country, Beaches, and Titanic, and would often ask family to sit and enjoy them with her. Again! Mom considered everyone family and her love was immense.

Alberta is survived by her husband, John Clifton Rhinehart; six children: Bonnie Lynn (Randy) Woods, Georgia Grace (Steve) Logan, Randy Dean (Sylvia) Rhinehart, Gerald Gene (Susan) Rhinehart, Rodney Lee (Lisa) Rhinehart, and Connie Kay (Joe) Garcia; 26 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Barber; a sister, Valora Rasmussen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Wesley Barber and Ruby Allyne Barber, and three sisters, Adel Faye, Althea Lynn and Imogene Mavis.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 5pm to 7pm at Lienkaemper Chapel in Ontario, Oregon. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 21st 11:00 a.m. at the Fruitland Highway Worship Center in Fruitland, Idaho.

Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Payette, Idaho.
