Ordained Minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church and later an Elder of the Nazarene Church.

He is the second son of George Washington Keys and Elizabeth Lambert Waller Keys.

He enlisted in 1865 and fought in the Civil War for 3 years starting at age 18.

Died age 78, 2 months and 16 days of Gastric Carcinoma.

Coleman Green Keys, age 73, for fifty years a resident in the Lawrence County---Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, ----to the great tomorrow following an illness of 6 ---- duration. Death came silently at his old home at Rock Camp where for years he has resided, having been born and reared in this county where he spent the greater part of his life.

C. G. Keys was widely known throughout this county and has taught many of Lawrence Counties best --- businessmen and farmers. He was never affiliated with any clubs or lodges.

Coleman G. Keys, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. George Washington Keys was born on Jan 16, 1848 and died March 28, 1926. He grew to manhood in Perry Township, Lawrence County, Ohio. The stirring ---of the Civil War made a strong impression on him as a boy, so when he became Eighteen, he enlisted in the regular army and gave three years of service to his country.

On April 3, 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Hester Ann Dilley, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abner Dilley of near Oak Ridge Furnace. To this union, nine children were born and grew to manhood and womanhood. They are Oliver A. Keys of ----, (The other married names are not legible in this old clipping)---together with twenty-three grandchildren and five brothers and one sister, survive him. Mrs. Keys passed away ten years ago.

Mr. Keys was always an ardent student. He began teaching when quite a young man and continued for the rest of his active life, except for a few years spent in Indiana. He was recognized as one of the foremost teachers of Lawrence County. He taught school in Porter County in 1906 and in Ironton in 1922.

C. G. Keys united with the church at Wesley Chapel, Feb. 1870 at Rock Camp. He was always a great stalwart, earnest worker in Sunday school, holding a position of superintendent for many years. He was a walking commentary on the Bible. He will live in the hearts of the people. He was appointed local preacher and was later an ordained Minister of the M. E. Church. During recent years he had been interested in the holiness movement and was, at time of death a member of the Nazarene Church, having been ordained an elder in that denomination. He died strong in the faith and in the hope of the resurrection, where he will meet relatives and friends and d especially her whom he has missed much since her death in 1916. The Sunday prior to his death when questioned by his son regarding his hopes he held up an emaciated hand and replied, "In my father's house are many mansions. He is building me a mansion, which eternally shall stand, for my stay will not be transient in that Holy, happy land.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at Wesley M. E. chapel at Rock Camp. Rev. and Mrs. Brandeberry will officiate; Interment will be made in Woodland cemetery, under direction of Undertaker Phillips.

The Civil War was from 1861 to 1865. He enlisted in Dec. 15,1866 and received his discharge Dec. 15, 1869.

Keyes a Corporal of Captain (first name-William or Benjamin, middle initial A; last name is apparently McKrobbinger's) Company K of the Second Regiment of Infantry who was enlisted the fifteenth day of December one thousand eight hundred and sixty six to serve three years is hereby discharged from the Army of the United States in consequence of Expiration of Service.

Said Coleman G. Keys was born in Perry Township in the State of Ohio, is twenty-four years of age, five feet eleven and 1/2 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, blond (?) hair and by occupation when enlisted a Miller.

Given under my hand at Mobile, Alabama, this fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

Mrs. Coleman Green Keys (Hester Ann Dilley) aged 65 of Rock Camp died Thursday night at 8:30 o'clock after an illness of about 10 days due to an absess, which later developed into gangrene and the latter was the direct cause of her death. The decendent was the daughter of the late Abner Dilley and an aunt of A. D. Markin, of S. 5th Street. She was widely known throughout the county and had a host of friends in this city, who were shocked to learn of her demise. She was born at Oak Ridge Furnace, Lawrence County, and resided here a great part of her life. She resided at Valparaiso Indiana for a time, however, but retained her membership in the Methodist Church at Valparaiso. She was a splendid Christian lady and her life was a benediction and an inspiration to all with whom she came in contact in her active and useful life. She reared a large family and the following mourn the demise of a devoted and ever thoughtful mother: Oliver Arnold Keys, Mrs. Laura Mae Summers of Council Grove, Kansas; John Keys of Kankakee, Ill.; Merrill Vincent Keys of Michigan City, Indiana; Mrs. R. Vandervort (Emma Lulu) of Springfield, Mo.; Mrs. R. B. McCrum (Elizabeth Ainslee)of Huntington, Ind.; Mrs. G. R. McCue (Mary Alice) of Garden City, Mo.; Mrs. Waller (Armilda Russell) of Washington State and Mrs. Charity Dilly Harris, at home, The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed but are in charge of Bingaman and Jones and will be announced later after the children have been heard from.Morning Irontonian Funeral service notice: The funeral services over the remains of Mrs. C. G. Keys will be held this morning at 10 o'clock at the Rock Camp church, with interment following in Woodland under direction of Bingaman and Jones. A number of local friends and relatives of Mrs. Keys will go to Rock Camp this morning to attend the funeral.
