Frances Jones Paine was a native of Berkshire county, Mass., born April 7, 1791, and came with her parents to what is now Lake County, Ohio, when but 16 years old. Her father was a Revolutionary War soldier.

She married Asahel Paine in 1810 Ohio. They lived in Lake County, Ohio until 1833; then came to Indiana, locating in what is now Jackson Township, and built the first cabin here, which still stands as a relic of the early times. When they came, their only neighbors were friendly Indians.

They were the parents of four children: Hamilton (b 1813 Ohio - d 1893), Lydia Falkner (b 1817 Ohio - 1900), Helen R (b 1820 Ohio) and Joel Clinton Paine (b 1829 Ohio - d 11/20/1912).

Asahel K. Paine devoted his life to clearing and improving the land, and died In May, 1870; Frances died September 30, 1872.

Jan Meyers, Jackson Twp Trustee, said the Paine graves were moved from the Paine family graveyard to Westville cemetery by Tofte in the 1980's.
