Ardis Nadine Backlund, age 61, of Grand Rapids, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005 at Fairview University Hospital, Minneapolis.
Ardis was born on Jan. 19, 1944 in East Baudette (Spooner) to Arthur and Anna May (Coleman) Kreger. She graduated from Robbinsdale High School in Robbinsdale in 1962. Ardis was united in marriage to Alvin Backlund on June 15, 1963 in Golden Valley. She had lived in the Grand Rapids area since 1975. Ardis was a member of the Swampsiders Snowmobile Club and a member of the Latter Day Saints. She loved animals and enjoyed driving through the woods.
Ardis was preceded in death by a son, Adam Backlund, her parents, her stepfather, Roy Grubstad and a brother, Frederick Grubstad.
She is survived by her husband, Al Backlund Jr. of Grand Rapids; two sons, Al (Katieanne) Backlund III of Grand Rapids, Andrew (fiance Andraya Rick) Backlund of Minneapolis; two sisters, Elaine (Mark) Allred of Seattle, Wash., Carol Grubstad of Douglasville, Ga.; one granddaughter, Marja Jo Backlund; one grandson, Justin Bender.
Services: Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Grand Rapids. Burial will be at the Nashwauk Cemetery, Nashwauk Township.
