U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Lowville, New York. He was district attorney for Lewis County, (1845-47), when elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress, serving (1847-49). Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio and continued the practice of law in 1853. He also engaged in banking, plus served as a director of the Lake Shore Railroad and East Cleveland Railroad, until his death at age 60.
