On January 6, 1848, she married John Gaston in Auraria, Lumpkin County, Georgia. This union produced one son, James Bostick Gaston (1850-1916). John Gaston died sometime around 1855. Being a widow with one child, Martha married John C. Brittain, sheriff of Lumpkin County, Georgia on October 22, 1857. Martha & John Brittain had one daughter, Mamie Elizabeth (1867-1955).
Over the next thirty years, Martha lived in Lumpkin County where her husband was now a United States Federal Judge.
Martha Kennedy Gaston Brittain departed this life on the 26th of March 1904 in Gainesville, Georgia; while visiting her son. She was in the 73rd year of her age and buried in Alta Vista Cemetery in the Gaston Family plot.
Later she was joined by her husband, John C. Brittain and her son, Judge James Bostick Gaston. The burial of John Gaston is not known.
