Frankie Buffington was from the Gillsville area of Hall County, GA. At a time when most women did not receive higher education, Frankie studied at what is now UGA to be a teacher. She married Clarence Bolding, also from the Gillsville area. They initially moved to Flowery Branch in Hall County, where Clarence farmed and Frankie taught school.

When Frankie's sister Cora (Buffington) Latty died, Frankie & Clarence took Cora's youngest child, Boyce, to raise as their own. Though she technically remained "Boyce Latty," everyone -- Boyce included -- considered her to be one of the four Bolding children.
