Marlin Raymond Pennington, 84, of North Aurora, Illinois passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Aurora, Illinois. Marlin was born August 16, 1926 in Independence, Missouri and lived his life as a young man in the Independence/Kansas City, Missouri area. Marlin served in the U.S. Army as a member of the military police during the Korean Conflict. During his life Marlin made his living doing many things. He worked on the police force, was a special agent for the Santa Fe Railroad in Chicago, Illinois, was a switchman for the Burlington Northern Railroad in Chicago, Illinois, and was a facilities manager for Pride Petroleum in Aurora, Illinois. Marlin's passion was baseball, as he was a minor league pitcher for the Yankees organization, playing ball in California and Nevada in the late 1940's and early 1950's. He was an audio and video enthusiast, and loved sharing his music and movies with family and friends. His most recent joy was running a Bible study group with his friends at Asbury Gardens supportive living community. Marlin is survived by his five children: Mark (Margaret) Pennington, Toni Pennington, Rick (Carrie) Pennington, Kathleen (Garry) Patterson and Michelle (Jon) Rippinger; 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Lorraine (Dumais) Pennington; daughter, Jodi Anne Pennington; granddaughter, Kelly Nicole Mazza; mother, Roxana (Sutton) Pennington, stepmother, Mae (Stultz) Pennington; father, Ira Pennington; brothers Garland, Harland, Charles and George Pennington; and sisters, Dorothy Meyers, Josephine Mace and Betty Lou Dixon. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 7:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora, IL 60506. A Family celebration of Marlin's life will be held at a later date. The place of interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115, 815-633-0211 in Rockford, IL. Marlin will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association .
