Louisa Ivie was born in the territory of Deseret, at Salt Lake City. She lived in Kamas and Provo. She married Philip Walch on April 20th, 1864, when she was 15 years old. Their first child, Charles, was born in Arizona Territory, but by 1870, they were living in Scipio.

Philip and Louisa had 11 children, two of whom died as infants and one who died as a child. Their marriage was sealed at the Endowment House in Salt Lake on June 19th, 1871. When she passed away, Louisa was Scipio's most elderly resident.
