Mildred B. "Millie" Garrett, 89, of Burlington, Kansas, Passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Life Care Center.

She was born on July 2, 1921, at Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Matilda (Rodesch) Mai. The granddaughter of Charles and Margaret (Boever) Rodesch.

She grew up in northwest Iowa, and graduated from high school at Spencer, Iowa in 1939. She moved to California in 1942 and worked at Northrop Aircraft during the war. It was there that she met, Eldon Earl "Curley" Garrett, and on June 27, 1948, they were married at Hawthorne, California.

In August of 1952, Millie and Curley moved to Burlington, Kansas, and then to a farm northeast of town. They moved back into Burlington in 1972.

Millie was a Program Assistant at the ASCS office in Burlington for 33 years, retiring in 1990.

Millie was baptized at the First Christian Church in Burlington on March 14, 1954, and was active in the church for many years, serving as a deaconess and attending the Happy Hustlers Sunday School class.

Millie was very active in the community and was a member and leader in many organizations. She was a Past Noble Grand of the Burlington Rebekah Lodge #751, was active in the Otter Creek Grange, Pleasant Hour Club, Beehive Club, Gideons International Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary at Garnett (where she was a life member), Moonlighters EHU, B.P.W., History club, Katy Park Council, Floral Club, Helping Hand Club, Travelers Club, and the Senior Women's Club. She also served on the City of Burlington Tree Board, as a board member for the Council on Aging in Ottawa and Burlington, and as secretary for the Burlington Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Garrett, on June 27, 1997. She was also preceded by her parents, Lawrence Mai and Matilda Mai Peterman and her grandparents, Charles and Margaret (Boever) Rodesch.

She is survived by her son, Delvin Garrett, of San Diego, California, and her daughter, Rhonda Strotman, of Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Jones Funeral Home, in Burlington, with burial following at Graceland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
