Henry L. Hayes, 88, of Springfield died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at his residence. He was born June 14, 1910, in Springfield, the son of Daniel L. and Mary E. Richards Hayes. He married Camellia M. Stacey in 1930; she preceded him in death.

Mr. Hayes retired from CWLP's water purification plant in 1975. He was a lifelong resident of Springfield, a member of Third Presbyterian Church, the Eagles Club, and the Earl Bonke Horseshoe Club, having served as past president. He was inducted into the Springfield Bowling Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. He played pro and semi-pro baseball through 1937, pitched the first no-hitter in Lanphier Park in 1926 and also served as a coach of the Pony and Colt Baseball Leagues.

Survivors: a son, Curt (wife, Joyce) Hayes of Springfield; a daughter, Mrs. George (Inez) Zepp of Farmington, Ky.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: Bisch and Son Funeral Home, the Rev. H. Warren Wilkewitz officiating. Emtombment: Oak Ridge Abbey.
