Gladys Magdalene Pounders Thorne, 82, of Killen, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Glenwood Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.She was a native of Colbert County, a member of Woodmont Baptist Church, a longtime member of the Florence Garden Club, a member of the Killen Senior Citizen Center and a member of the Wally Byam Airstream Club.During WWII, she worked as a Southern Bell telephone operator and was stationed in Miami, Fla. She was a retired substitute teacher for Lauderdale County and the Florence school systems and a retired para-professional art aide at Brandon Elementary School.The visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, from noon-2:30 p.m., at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral will be a graveside service at 3 p.m. in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Carl Creasy.She was preceded in death by he parents, William Jefferson and Mary Frances Pounders; brothers, Claude Pounders and Billy Pounders; sisters, Millie Roden, Lucille Pounders, Florence Pounders, Annie Mae Hester and Lorene Posey.She is survived by her husband, Arto A. Thorne of Killen; daughters, Barbara Edwards and husband, Bruce, of Leoma, Tenn., Brenda Staggs and husband, B.G., of Cloverdale, Judy Quigley and husband, Edd, of Muscle Shoals; brothers, William J.T. Pounders of Tuscumbia and Jim Pounders of Muscle Shoals; and two grandchildren, Ryan Edwards of Cleveland, Tenn., and Mandy Edwards of Leoma, Tenn.Pallbearers will be friends and family.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the American Heart Association, 501 N.
