OBITUARY -
Matthew Alexander Curtis, 34, died Monday, May 22, 2000 of complications of Cystic Fibrosis.
He was born January 20, 1966 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marvin Raine and Carrol (Romney) Curtis.
He married Amy Lyn Sutton on November 14, 1992 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Matt graduated from East High School in 1984. He served on LDS Mission in Arcadia, California from 1985-87.
He graduated from the University of Utah in 1993, Spent 2 years in the MFA program in creative writing and was an instructor. He published 2 childrens books and won a Utah Arts Council Award for a personal essay. He was intelligent without pretension, self-depricating and genuine, beautiful without awareness. He was an avid reader and poet.
Matt claimed he learned the value of hard work on a construction crew, who referred to him as Matt-the Lionhearted.
As his health declined he, he discovered a passion for computers and loved his work as a self-taught computer programmer for Profit Pro, Inc, in Draper, Utah.
Matt was an insightful teacher and speaker in the LDS Church. As a youth he was mentored by wonderful Scout Leaders who remained trusted friends. They fostered his appreciation for the natural world through memorable hiking and camping experiences. Matt most recently served as a Scout Den Leader.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin R. and Carrol Romney Curtis.
He is survived by his wife, Amy, Stepmother, Darlene B. Curtis; six siblings: Rosemary (Michael) Neider, Marvin (Joan), Cory (Arwella), Natalie (James) McCullough, Robyn (Lane Anderson),and Christopher (Kate); as well as 34 nieces and nephews and a close knit extended family.
He was the youngest of seven children, but the events of his passing have shown that "the last shall be first".
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Mat 27,2000 at 12 noon at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary , 3401 South highland Drive. Friends and family may call at the mortuary from 10:45-11:45 a.m .
Intermet will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Monument.
