LITTLE FALLS -- Guilford "Gil" H. Mowers, 83, Little Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls.

He was born May 30, 1918, in Akron, Iowa, to Jesse G. and Norah (Hall) Mowers. They moved to Omaha, Neb., before moving to Brainerd, where he graduated from high school. He worked for Crow Wing Co-operative Power and Light as a lineman until August of 1941 when he worked on defense jobs as an electrician in Illinois, Texas, Nebraska and Kansas City. He married Constance Flieger on Feb. 22, 1942, in Brainerd. He joined the 50th Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) in November 1942. He served on Midway and Tinian, Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. After his discharge in October 1945, he was employed by Northern States Power Co., in Minneapolis. He attended Southern State College and Colorado College. He joined the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D., in November 1948. He developed and instructed a job training and safety program for the rural electric cooperatives in North Dakota. He later became director of the program. In July 1958, he was appointed state director of trade and industrial education for North Dakota. He held offices and was active in the state safety council and various vocational associations. During the Cold War, he conducted civil defense and radiological monitoring training for the fire departments and other organizations throughout the state. He joined DoAll Twin Cities Co., of Minneapolis as a sales engineer in July 1968. He retired in 1982. He entered St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton, in May 1997. He transferred to Little Falls Lutheran Care Center in December. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Breckenridge, Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Wahpeton Golden K. Kiwanis. He was a 60-year member of the IBEW.
Survivors include his wife, Little Falls; a daughter, Sharon Annear, Alexandria, Va.; a son, Barry Mowers, Little Falls; and seven grandchildren.
A sister and two brothers died earlier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Breckenridge with the Rev. David Cripe officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Memorials are preferred to Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center and MeritCare Childrens Hospital in Fargo, N.D.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Vertin-Munson Wahpeton Funeral Home and an hour before services Friday at the church.
