James Jones Norris was the son of Benjamin Norris (B. abt 1793, D. after 1873) and Elizabeth, both of England. He was the brother of Henry B. Norris (B. 1817, D. April 27,1882) also of England and Albany, NY (reference FAG#78079541).

He immigrated with his family on the ship Rosehill on June 28, 1832 from London, England. The passenger list says:
Benjamin Norris 39
Elizabeth 37
Henry 14
James 13

James was a barber in Albany.

He married Katherine E. Hawes on Sept 6, 1840 in Albany, NY.

He died of old age at 88y 10m 11d at his home at 9 Congress Street, Ward 13, Albany. He had been attended to by Dr. George A. Cox.

This family is difficult to trace because both Henry and James used many of the same names and initials for their children and then their children did the same. These names are probably familial and the middle names are may help trace this family's lineage. Middle names include: Barabent and Baker. (see Albany's State Street Presbyterian Church records)
