He was a vet of World War ll. Served in the 5th spearhead division of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was one of the 1st of 5000 to hit Jiwa in 1945. He fought the battle until the last 100 yards of the beach then he was shot 3 times. He went from a buck private to a corporal in one day. He was at Bethesda Naval Hospital for 5 years. When he got out of the hospital, he was hitch hiking home to Middlpoint on crutchs and President Harry S. Truman saw him on Wilson Ave. and had him get in his limo beside him and gave him a ride home to Middlepoint.
