Zettie married Robert Young Hoffman, a veteran of the Spanish American War, and they are the parents of Elva, Laura, William Bryant, Ruby L and Reedy Alexander.
Zettie was admitted to the Western NC asylum in August of 1923 when her youngest son was 10. She remained there for 31 yr 2 mo 12 days. Her brother, Walter, had been admitted to the asylum in 1906 and midway through her stay there, in 1937, he died at the asylum and was buried there. Two years later her mother died of accidental burns sustained while tending the washpot at home. Their father died about 10 weeks later.
Zettie died at the asylum at age 72 of congenital heart disease (patent foramen ovale) resulting in cardiac failure; atrophy of brain cortex and schizophrenic reaction, hebephrenic type. She was buried with her husband.
