Katherine C. Ashby from Fairfield, 91 years young, passed away peacefully Dec. 31, 2016, at the Mayflower Assisted Living facility. She was born March 4, 1925, to Harry and Ethel Cunningham of Elsberry, Mo. She was married to the late Willis “Bill” Ashby with whom she celebrated 54 years of marriage until his death in August 1997. Known to family and friends as “Katie,” she was an active member of the New Providence Presbyterian Church. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, and his wife from Coopersburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Gracie Hill and niece Marcia Hill; and nephew Marc Hill from Elsberry, Mo. If you wish to, as an alternative to flowers, please make a donation to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington, VA 24450 in her name. This will support a service that she believed in, and they were there in her final moments. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at New Providence Presbyterian Church, Raphine, VA 24472. The News Leader from Jan. 2 to Jan. 5, 2017. Edited for FaGrave. On the 1930 Elsberry, Lincoln Co., MO census, I found lumber yard manager, Harry Cunningham, 37; wife of 13 years, Ethel Cunningham, 39; plus daughters: Catherine Cunningham, 5 ?/12 and Mary G Cunningham, 1 1/12. All MO born, except for Ethel, born in OH.
