Mr. James Brown age 65 of Scalf, KY departed this life on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at his home. He was the widower of Betty (Davis) Brown and the son of Ed Gray & Cordie Brown. He was a member of the Salt Gum Baptist Church and was a retired logger and a farmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed Gray & Cordie Brown, one grandchild Trevor and one sister in law, Evelyn Brown.
Survivors include his daughters, April Mills and husband Johnny of Walker, Lula Mills of Barbourville and Karen Mills and husband Michael of Road Fork, his grandchildren, Charmaine Partin and husband Shaun, Shantoria, James, Benjamin, Johnny and Andrew, and great grandchildren Brody and Grady. He also leaves behind six brothers, Bill Brown and wife Gerry of Flat Lick, General Brown and wife Delia, Dallas Brown and wife Diane and Bradley Brown all of Scalf, Jack Brown and wife Debbie of London and Bowman Brown and wife Judy of Scalf, KY, his brothers and sisters in law, Floretta and Harold Sowders of London, Ruth Vertz of Michigan, Alice and Bill Harrell of Florida and Mary Lou Davis of Jarvis and a special nephew Leonard Brown. Mr. Brown also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services for Mr. James Brown will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Kennon Roark and Rev. David Barnard officiating. Pallbearers will be Family. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Woolum and the staff of the Pineville Community Hospital and the staff of Hospice of the Bluegrass. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery at Browns Branch. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.

Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
