Mary Alice McWethy, age 101, of Oneida, died peacefully April 8, 2011 in the Extended Care Facility of the Oneida Healthcare Center where she had been a resident since January of 2001. Mary was born November 13, 1909, in Mount Clemens, Mich., the only child of Harry P. and Kate S. Johnson. She was educated in Mount Clemens and at Pine Manor Junior College. She married Pearson K. McWethy on October 25, 1930, in Mount Clemens. Mr. McWethy died April 4, 1993. After his death, Mary moved to Clinton, N.Y. where she lived for six years before entering the ECF. Mary worked for many years as the legal editor of The Macomb Daily News. During World War II she served as a homefront volunteer with the Red Cross. Mary was a life-long member of the Alexander Macomb Chapter of the DAR, and was a member and frequent volunteer for the Macomb County Historical Society. Her volunteer activities for the Historical Society included serving on the Board of Directors as corresponding secretary; she also was responsible for organizingthe Society's first docent corps. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Morris Atwood of Oneida; two grandchildren, Edward Allen of Syracuse and Mary Helen (Stephen) Albrecht of La Quinta, Calif. and twin great-grandchildren, Alex and Andrew Albrecht. Private cremation took place under the direction of the Malecki Funeral Home in Sherrill. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Marshall, Mich. at the convenience of the family. In accordance with Mary's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A memorial service will be held later in the spring at the convenience of the family.
