DAVENPORT -- Russell F. Anderson Sr. 74, of Davenport, passed away at VA Medical Center, Iowa City. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2003, at God's Family Baptist, Grand Mound. The Rev. Larry Pruitt will preside at the service. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Runge Mortuary. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by VFW 9128, Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the church.
He was born on October 26, 1928, in Malta, Ohio, to Lelia (Glass) and Harry Anderson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper.
He was a heavy equipment operator for 45 years for Operator Engineer Union Local 537. He retired in January 1991.
Russell Anderson Sr. was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Burnaugh in 1949 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death in September 1987. He was later married to Eileen Jones on November 12, 1989, in Pontiac, Mo.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes and traveling.
He had a lifetime membership with Bettendorf VFW 9128.
He was a member of God Family Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife, Eileen; two daughters, Susan K. McDonough, Macedon, N.Y., and Tonya Birch, Burlington, Iowa; four sons, Russell Jr., of Iowa, Frank C., Davenport, Gregory K., Davenport, and Arden Scott, Milan, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Cindy Williams, Ava, Mo., Patty Watts, DeWitt, Iowa, and Ruth Satterfield, Wasola, Mo.; four stepsons, Stan Prine, Lowden, Iowa, Jess Prine, Davenport, Randy Prine, Walcott, Iowa, and Scott Prine, Wasola, Mo.; 27 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two nieces in Ohio.
