Henry A Dobbin, 72, prominent retired farmer and a lifelong resident of the State Center community, passed away at Evangelical hospital in Marshalltown last Saturday morning, May 21, following an illness of a week's duration. Death resulted from a stroke.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church in State Center Monday, May 23, in charge of Rev Norman Lawton, pastor of the church. Interment was in Hillside cemetery with graveside Masonic rites being in charge of Terrestrial Lodge No 276, A.F. and A.M.

Mr Dobbin was born at State Center on June 5, 1893, the son of Alexander and Catherine Zwilling Dobbin. He received his early education in the local schools, graduating from State Center High School in 1911. He continued his education at Iowa State University in 1915. While attending Iowa State, he was a charter member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.

He was united in marriage to Lillian Taff at Neileigh, Nebraska on January 11, 1914. The couple moved to a farm southwest of State Center following his graduation from college and they resided there until they retired and moved to State Center in 1941. Mr Dobbin was a longtime member of the Farm Bureau and at one time served as vice president of the Chicago Livestock Producers Association, a national organization.

Both as a farmer and as a citizen of State Center, Mr Dobbin was extremely active in farm, church, fraternal and civic affairs of the community for his entire lifetime. A member of the Iowa Rose Society, he devoted much time and effort in helping establish the State Center Rose Garden. He also served on the board of the State Horticultural Society of Iowa.

Mr Dobbin was a member and ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church and was a member and past president of the State Center Lions Club. He had served on the city council and on the board of director of the State Center Farmers Cooperative Creamery Associating. He was a 50 year Mason.

He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs William (Kathryn) Diamond of Arlington Heights, Illinois; two sons, Dan of State Center and Robert of Westport, Connecticut; one sister, Mrs Martha Sellers of St Petersburg, Florida; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mr Dobbin was preceded in death by his parents.
