James T. Burch married Miss Susan Slavin on 1 July 1854 at McLennan County, Texas according to marriage records in that county. She was the daughter of John Slavin. Two of their eight children died young.
Tilman Burch and his family lived in Bosque County for over 30 years. In 1871, he bought 200 more acrews along Rocky Creek and 655-1/2 acres along Childress Creek in 1873. He farmed, raised horses and cattle on 1,015 1/2 acres. In 1881, the family moved to Mills County according to school records and in December 1890, he sold the last of his Bosque County ranch. The Burch family moved to the Chickasaw Indian Nation in Indian Territory. Not being satisfied, Tillman returned to Texas in 1891 and lived in Scurry and Young Counties.
