Edward Dowell Peterson went to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the age of 78.

Born to Elof and Edna Peterson on January 26, 1933, and raised in Elgin, Texas, Dowell was a long time resident of Houston.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Katherine Peterson, son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Stacey Peterson, granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Peterson of Austin Texas, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Sissy Nagy and Howard and Julia Petersen. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family.


A 1961 graduate of the South Texas College of Law, Dowell worked in both private practice early in his career and on the staff of the General Counsel for the Texas Department of Transportation where he retired in 1993. He volunteered his time and energy for many years working with the Elgin Housing Authority which assists others in finding low income housing. He was an active member of the Lazybrook Baptist Church and he loved Bible study, attending services, and spending time in fellowship with his many friends.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Houston, Texas.

Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday morning at the Lazybrook Baptist Church, 1822 West 18th Street.

Interment will follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family respectfully requests that contributions in Dowell's name be given to the Lazybrook Baptist Church - Senior Adult Fund or to the charity of one's choice.

Dow lived to be 78 years, 2 months and 14 days old.
