Former Adair County Man Passes Away

W.E. "Uncle Button" Reed Died At His Home In Tahlequah Last Sunday

W.E. "Uncle Button" Reed, age 66, passed away Sunday morning at 4:45 o'clock, at his home in Tahlequah. He had been in ill health for three months and death was attributed to a heart ailment.

Mr. Reed was born in Washington County, Arkansas, March 13, 1869, and the early part of his life was spent in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

Mr. Reed is well known in Stilwell, having operated a funeral home here for a number of years. He moved to Tahlequah eight years ago. The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church of Tahlequah and also a member of the Masonic lodge of Tahlequah.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church in Tahlequah at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon with the Rev. C.H. Shackelford of Tahlequah, and the Rev. Otto C. Seymour of Joplin conducting the services. Masonic rites were held at the grave in Tahlequah cemetery. Gnuipel funeral home of Muskogee was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Pauline Reed, five sons, E.D. Reed of Stilwell, D.W. Reed of Evansville, M.C. Reed of Morrow, Ark., R.E. Reed of Evansville and one daughter, Mrs. L.L. Culver of Tahlequah. Two brothers, Vol Reed, Prairie Grove, Steve Reed of California. Four sisters, Mrs. W.R. McCaleb of Stilwell, Mrs. Tom Latta of Morrow, Ark. Mrs. S.H. Leach of Evansville and Mrs. Tom King of Prairie Grove.

The many friends of Mr. Reed wish to extend their sympathy to his loved ones during their sorrow. According to Mr. McCaleb of Stilwell, Mr. Reed's nickname, "Uncle Button" was given him by Mrs. McCaleb because of his fondness for children.
