Marie Bishop Heaton, 89, is happily reunited with her husband, Alma, who died in 2002 and her first son who died in 1945. Marie, a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Hearthstone Manor in Spanish Fork.
She was born February 23, 1922 in Hinckley, Utah, the seventh child of Daniel Earl Bishop and Maude Langston. As a child, Marie loved to help her dad with their farm in Hinckley and to ride horses with her friends.
She had a lifelong love of music and later dancing. She played the lead in her high school play, loved sports, and was vice president of her senior class. She graduated from Hinckley High school in 1940. After high school, she was employed as a nanny in Salt Lake City.
She met her companion, Alma, in April of 1941. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 3, 1943. Marie and Alma had a long and wonderful life together as they traveled the world teaching dance and other activities for the LDS Church.
They raised a loving family. The Heaton home was always filled with fun and laughter and had a backyard that many people came to play in. Together they served an eighteen-month mission in India from 1980-1981. They were also asked to serve two, six week missions in several European countries, which they gladly accepted.
Marie will always be remembered by her cheerful smile and kind words that she had for everyone she talked to. She was not one for the spotlight; she left that to her husband, Alma.
She was a faithful and strong member of the LDS Church, serving twice as Relief Society president as well as serving on the church wide General Dance Committee.
She is survived by her four children: Randel (Sue) Heaton, Hal (Karynn) Heaton, Rochelle (Robert) Zahrt, and Debra (Sam) Wimpfheimer. She will be fondly remembered by her seventeen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in the Mount Loafer Ward Chapel, 275 South 1400 East, Spanish Fork, Utah. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and at the Church on Tuesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
