Bonnie Herness, 77, of Battle Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at her home.

Bernice Helen Herness was born on Sept. 10, 1933, in Leaf Mountain Township, rural Clitherall, the daughter of Albin and Hazel (Bjork) Listrom. She was baptized and confirmed in the Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church and attended Rural School District 176 in Leaf Mountain Township.

Bonnie and Chester Warren Herness were married Oct. 24, 1952, in Battle Lake. Following their marriage they moved to Racine, Wis., where they lived for 45 years.

They spent summers at their farm in Eagle Lake Township. In May of 1997, they moved to their farm and the following September they moved to a home in Battle Lake.

In Racine, Bonnie did various waitress and cooking jobs and she also made pies for a restaurant. In Battle Lake she and her sister, Louise, continued making pies, selling at various functions.

Bonnie enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting and would do baby quilts and also made afghans. She enjoyed bird watching and had bird houses and feeders in her yard, raising cactuses and her flower gardens.

Bonnie liked spending time at the farm; her family remembers her good cooking and she was known for her meatballs with milk gravy.

Bonnie and Warren were in the ceramic business in Racine, making various ceramic products. She was a member of Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Pam (Erv) Trosdahl of Clitherall; three sons, William (Robin) Herness of Racine, Wallace Herness and Harlan Herness, both of Battle Lake; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Mary Kay), Paul, Jeremy (Jayme) and Laine Herness, Tracy (Tyson) Quella, Brad (JoAnne) and Brent (Vanessa) Trosdahl and Rachel (Vern) Newman; 15 great-grandchildren, Noah, Makayla, Joshua, Bailey, Paige and Peyton Herness, Trentyn, Taylor, and Tytan Quella, Benjamin Newman and Lars, Yancey, Laney, McLaine and Katie Trosdahl; three sisters, Bev Bjerketvedt of Henning, Romayne Schlagel of Arizona and Selma (Hollis) Alfredson of Battle Lake; two brothers, Marlin (Patsy) Listrom of Perham and Delmar (Nancy) Listrom of Alexandria; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester Warren Herness; daughter, Lorie Ann Herness; two sisters, Delaine Listrom and Louise Nelson; and one brother, Calmer Listrom.

Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service

Service: 11 a.m. Friday, at Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church, rural Clitherall
