Mrs. Barbara Schmitz, 88. of Mount Calvary, died Saturday afternoon at Villa Loretto Nursing Home, Mount Calvary, where she was a patient for 11 years. She was born April 3. 1888. at Mount Calvary, a.daughter of the late Peter and Gertrude Michels Gundert. She attended Mount Calvary grade school. and on Nov. 5, 1907. she was married to John P. Schmitz at Mount Calvary. The couple farmed in the Mount Calvary area until 1945 when they moved to the Village of Mount Calvary. Mrs. Schmitz was employed as a cook by the Capuchin fathers at Mount Calvary for several years. She was a life member of Holy Cross Catholic Church at Mount Calvary. a member of Christian Mothers. Third Order of St. Francis and a member of Gold Star Mother of Abler- Engel American Legion Auxiliary of Mount Calvary. Surviving are three sons. Florian of Portland. Ore.. Gilbert and Anthony both of St. Peter: three daughters. Mrs. Norbert (Rosie) Engel of St. Anna. Mrs. Edwin (Agnes) Nett of Fond du Lac and Mrs. Thomas (Mabel) Floyd of Dotyville; 34 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Nick (Agnes) Birschbach of rural Mount Calvary. She was preceded In death by her husband In 1955, and by four sons, a daughter, three grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Huss Funeral Home, St. Cloud, and at II a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Mount Calvary. The Rev. Rupert Dorn will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends of Mrs. Schmitz may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
