DEATH TAKES MRS. McCAWLEY AFTER LENGTHY ILLNESS
Mrs. Mamie McGee McCawley, wife of A. L. McCawley, former state senator and legislator, died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday in McCune-Brooks Hospital.
In failing health many years, Mrs. McCawley had been a semi-invalid since suffering a fractured hip on Christmas Eve in 1961 at her home, 304 West Macon. She was hospitalized several months at that time.
In recent months, she had been at the home of Mr. and Mrs.Carl Epperson , 309 South Orner. Her condition became more serious October 28 and she was moved by Knell ambulance to the hospital.

Mrs. McCawley was born May 1, 1878 at Smithland, Kentucky. When she was 17, her mother, Mrs. A. B. McGee, a widow at that time, moved to Sarcoxie. With Mrs. McGee were her sons, Carroll, and Adolph and daughter, Mamie.
On June 2, 1896, Mamie McGee ws married to Alfred L. McCawley, also a native of Kentucky, and the following October they came to Carthage, where Mrs. McCawley has lived since.
Mr. McCawey, an attorney and active in Democratic politics, served as state senator from 1922 to 1930 and as State Representative Eastern district, Jasper County, from 1932 to 1934. Later he was counsel of the State Board of Architects and Engineers, having been named to that post in 1941. He retired two years ago and devoted his interest to the promotion and construction of nursing homes and dwellings for the aged. He has maintained an office in Jefferson City for many years.

Mrs. McCawley also took an active part in Democratic circles and was a member of the Eastern District Women's Democratic Club.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church; Eminence chapter, Order of Eastern Star; Social Order of Beauceant; Royal Neighbor Lodge; United Daughters of the Confederacy; Carthage Music club and the White Shrine of Joplin.
She was a member of the Cosmos club, which disbanded last year.
Surviving in addition to the husband are;
a son;
John McCawley of St. Louis, MO
a granddaughter;
Mrs. W. D. Crawford of Corpus Christi, Texas
and several grandchildren
Mrs. McCawley's brothers preceded her in death.
The brother;
Adolph McGee, an attorney and probate judge here several years, died March 25, 1942.
Mrs. McCawley's foster son, Charles L. Hoagland, M.D. died in 1946 at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland whre he was on the research staff.
