Narrative--Family of Samuel Jefferson Buie, Sr. Information on Ancestry.com

Samuel Jefferson Buie was a mere lad of 19 years when the Civil War ended. It is not clear just what the circumstances were when he answered the call to the colors of the Confederacy. Suffice to say he had considerable experience following the north end of a southbound mule with a plow on his father's farm. And he must have been quite a man physically. Especially to us who have handled his Civil War saber now in the possession of his son Sam. It is my opinion that few of his descendents of today would possess such physical stamina. To you that do not know Samuel Jefferson Buie was a member of the Cavalry and in those days it meant that you do your fighting from horseback. He was severely wounded in battle. After the war he made his home close to his father's homestead and there his family was raised. On a recent visit to the home of his son, Sam I asked to see the old family Bible. You could tell this Bible had been used a lot, for it was simply worn out. Much of the information in this history was taken from that Bible. It is regretted that more of us didn't know him better when he was among us. (Narrative by historian)
