Francis William Pee enlisted in the Union army on September 8th 1861, as a Private in Co. A, 11th Reg. PA Volunteers and was transferred to the Co. H, 10th Reg. Veteran Reserve Corps on or about October 1863. While serving as a Corporal he was slightly wounded in the shoulder at the battle of Antietam, MD September 16 & 17, 1862. His hearing was damaged at Fredericksburg, VA on or about December 13, 1862 caused by the cannonading and explosions of shells near his head. As a Sergeant he received a gunshot wound in the left arm about 3 inches above the elbow in the battle of Gettysburg July 1st 1863. Honorably discharged September 30, 1864.[source: Civil War pension file]

He was 5'11" tall, with a light complexion, blue eyes and dark hair. He was a millwright by trade.
