Mildred Jean Marsalis was an English teacher when she met the handsome young pharmacist who would become her husband. She had a beautiful wedding, something of which all little girls dream.
Her diary revealed a little bit of a wild child. She went to the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, and while there, met people who later would become famous. She makes casual mention of George Patton, who like Charles Lindbergh, was friends with her brother.
She cared about the past, and making sure her grandchildren appreciated their ancestry. Without her, I would never have known who I am. I have indebted to her in many ways.
She had a gift of being able to be a lady at all times, and taught us the importance of knowing how to behave in all in social situations. She expected be to do well, and would never accept anything less. Now as I look back, I think she knew me better than anyone else did.
I was a bit of a wild child as a teenager, and until I found her diary 15 years after her death, I did not have a clue that she could understand how I felt. I REALLY enjoyed reading her diary. God Bless Her Free Spirited Soul.
Thank you Mimi.
