OBITUARY, SAM'L TURNAGE
Life Sketch of a Former Citizen Who Died at Carthage, Missouri Recently
Samuel P Turnage, a well known Carthage (Mo.) citizen, died at his home at 312 North Maple Street at 11:00 o'clock a.m., December 22, 1909. He had been failing for about a year and was bedfast for about five weeks with dropsy and heart trouble.
Funeral services were held at the family residence at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Tralle, pastor of the Baptist Church.
Mr. Turnage was sixty-three years of age, having been born near Richmond, Ray County, Missouri in 1846. He went to Carthage twenty-five years ago and has been employed at the local flour mills most of the time.
Ten surviving children were at the bedside of their father when the end came. They are Mrs. Leona Smith of Carthage, Mrs. Cornelia A. Beeson of Bartlesville, OK., W. W. Turnage of Iowa, J. D. Turnage and Everett Turnage of Carthage, Miss Lula Turnage of St. Joseph, Claude and Lawrence Turnage, Mrs. Myrtle Burnes and Miss Bertha Turnage all of Carthage, MO.
The deceased was the son of Rev. William Turnage, and was born on the part of the Turnage farm near Rayville now owned by Willis Crowley. He married Miss Nancy E. Hunt, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Hunt now Mrs. Joshua Dale. Mr. Turnage was an uncle of Rev. John C. Turnage of near Rayville, and had many friends in Ray County.
