Her husband Abdiel, A.T., was a city surveyor and a local politician. His signature was found in the title search records obtained by their great-granddaughter, Rita Risley Weatherford, when the property she and her husband owned was paid off circa 1980!

Mrs.A. T. Risley died of pneumonia at 9:25 oclock Wednesday evening Feb. 10, at the family residence, on william street. She had been ill a week or more and her family and friends have realized that her condition was extremely critical.
Mrs. Risley was 65 years old.She was a native of Ohio but had been a resident of this city since 1856. Her health has been poor for long time past but she bore her lot patiently and was devoted to her husband and children, and her friendship was prized by all who knew her. Her Husband A. T. Risley and seven children survive her. They are Mrs. Hune, Mrs.Fred Willis, Mrs. Loring, A.T. Risley, Jr., A.P and A. D. Risley and A. G. Risley. All of the family members were present when the final summons came.
The funeral has not been but will be announced later.

The funeral of the late Mrs. A. T. Risley took place at 2 oclock Sunday afternoon from the family residence on William street. There were many friends and relatives of the dead present to pay a last tribute to her memory.
Rev. W. C. Miller of the congregational church, preached a very touching funeral sermon, speaking in eulogistic terms of the life of the departed. She was a kind friend and neighbor, devoted wife and mother and there are many kind acts in life which stand forth prominently and will serve to keep the memory of her alive.
Music for the occasion was furnished by a quarteete composed of Misses May McKenzie and Lizzie Knieper and Messrs. Frank Bunn and Bert Gher.
The remains were laid to rest at Greenwood and despite the inclement weather were followed thither by a large number of people. Brief services were held at the grave. The pall bearers were Dr. M. Brandom, L. barnard, George M. Wood, B. McGoray, C.Amman and W.C.Dimoth.

Abdiel & Elvira's daughter Estelle's obituary was published in The Daily Republican, Saturday Evening, October 14, 1882, Page 3 (Decatur, Macon Co., IL). Ms. Kemp came across more than 35 trial records for the People Vs. James D. Wheeler trial in which he was tried for Estelle's murder. He was found not guilty. She was only 22 years old.
