Savannah Morning News (Savannah, Ga.), November 1, 1882, page 1, column 9:

Serious Illness of a Prominent Citizen of Effingham.
Egypt, GA., October 30.--Mr. George Foy, father of Mr. E[dward]. E[dwin]. Foy (Representative elect of the county of Effingham), and one of the oldest and most respected citizens of the county, is now lying hopelessly ill at his home near this place. While returning home on horseback last Thursday evening he was suddenly attacked by paralysis, and fell from his animal to the ground, sustaining a few slight bruises. The family, upon seeing the animal return by itself, immediately set out in search of Mr. F., and found him by the roadside, helpless. The skill of his physician and the kind attention and nursing of loving relatives seem to be of no avail, and his many friends will regret to learn that his case is hopeless.

Death of Mr. George Foy.
Information was received in the city yesterday of the death of Mr. George Foy, at his residence in Egypt, Effingham county, at quarter past ten o'clock in the morning, from the effects of a paralytic stroke. It will be remembered that an account appeared in our columns a few days ago of his being struck with paralysis while riding along the road returning to his home, and his falling from his horse and being severely injured. The deceased was in his eighty-ninth year, and was well known in Savannah and very highly respected in this city and throughout this entire section. His funeral will take place this afternoon at 3 o'clock from his late residence at Egypt.
