George McDonald Bland was born in Seneca county, Ohio, Feb. 12, 1849, and died at his home in Richland township, Steuben county, Indiana, June 3, 1922, aged 73 years, 3 months and 16 days.

He was the first of six children born to William and Rhoda Bland. At the age of fifteen he moved with his parents from Seneca county, Ohio to Indiana, walking the distance and driving the cattle from the old home in Ohio to his new home in Indiana. When but a child, he was baptized and became a member of the church.

September 7, 1872 he was married to Marguerite Struble of Reading, Mich. To this union was born one child, Mrs. Fronia Van Auken, who with her mother still survive. Mr. Bland became ill about three years ago, from which time he failed rapidly in health until June 3rd when he fell asleep and was freed from the aches and pains and suffering through which he heroically passed bravely for so many months,

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Carl VanAuken; one brother, John Bland, of Otsego township, one grandson, and a large number of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the South Scott Union church Monday afternoon, June 5, at two o’clock, Rev. J. J. Fischer, pastor of the Alvarado Methodist church officiating after which interment was made in the cemetery near the church.
