Sarah was born to Benjamin Fairchild and Sarah Ann (Patee) Knapp. She married 29 Dec 1860 in Trenton, Wayne, Michigan John Henry Pardington, son of William and Eliza (Slatter) Pardington. To them was born 11 Jun 1862 Maria Ann Pardington who later married Frederick Arthur Peel. It is this Maria A. Peel who is the informant on the death certificate. John enlisted and was a Corporal in the 24th MI Volunteers, Co. B. He died at Gettysburg for which Sarah obtained a pension. John's letters to her have been published in the book Dear Sarah. 23 Oct 1864 in Brownstown, Sarah remarried 1864 Robert Smith McDonald, an immigrant from Scotland who is listed next door to her father in the 1860 census. Robert served as a policeman in Detroit for several years and is also buried at Woodmere. They had several children and after Robert died, his brother George who was then living with them married Sarah 21 Oct 1907, in Detroit, Michigan. George's wife had been Amanda Fletcher who died in 1906. She was the daughter of William W. and Mary (Pattee) Fletcher. It would seem both of George's wives were Pattee descendants. George is buried at West Mound Cemetery with his first wife Amanda under a stone carved MacDonald (sic).
