Mr. Alfred Baldwin ‘Al' McNair, 86, of Hamlet died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital. He was born November 18, 1924 in Rockingham, a son of the late Walter Edmund McNair and Sarah Nicholson McNair.

Mr. McNair was the co-owner of W.E. McNair Furniture Co., in Rockingham until his retirement. He attended Edwards Military Academy in Salemburg and Presbyterian Junior College in Maxton. Mr. McNair was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hamlet, where he served as Deacon and an Elder. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Navy.

A service to celebrate Mr. McNair's life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church in Hamlet with Dr. Mark Carver officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the fellowship hall of the church and other times at the Burgess home, 400 Wilson Avenue, Hamlet.

Mr. McNair is survived by his wife, Betsy McNair of the home; two daughters, Beth McNair Freeman and husband Eric of Littleton, CO and Susie McNair Burgess and husband Mike of Hamlet; a son, Bill McNair of Hamlet; and two grandchildren, Rebecca and John Burgess of Hamlet. Mr. McNair was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 200 Rice St., Hamlet, NC 28345.
