n 1940, Max graduated from Rapid City High School. He attended SDSM&T for one year before enlisting in the Navy in 1943. Between 1943 and 1946 he served on five different ships in the Signal Corps.
In 1949, he married Mary Wieser in New Underwood. Max worked at the Casino Bowling Alley and Gateway Bowling Alley. In 1958, he became part owner of Meadowood Lanes and also worked there. He bowled the first 300 game at Meadwood Lanes. He retired in 1985.
His love for bowling landed him in the South Dakota Bowling Hall of Fame. He loved to garden, fish and hunt. He was an avid collector and sports fan. Max was a member of the Elks and VFW. He loved his family very much.
He is survived by his wife: Mary, Rapid City; one daughter, Linda (David) DeJong, Sioux Falls; one brother: Leo Hoehn, Rapid City; one sister, Harriet Foertsch, Rapid City; five grandchildren: Dan Simonson, Rapid City; Tim Hoehn, Rapid City; Matt Hoehn, Rapid City; Andrew DeJong, Sioux Falls; Maggie DeJong, Sioux Falls; two great-grandchildren: Emily and Noah Simonson, Rapid City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Agnes Dennis, Rapid City; daughter Pamela Simonson, Duluth, MN; and son Randall Hoehn, Rapid City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Andrzej Wyrostek presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Church.
Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis at 12:30 p.m. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard.
