Helen Day Anstess Farnsworth was born in Gloucester, MA, the daughter of Hattie Day and Daniel Anstess. She married Maynard Farnsworth. During her lifetime, she also resided in New York state for a short time, and then moved to California where she finished out her life. She had three children. She attended schools that were similiar to the old "finishing schools". For graduation she was required to make her own dress, including all the lacework, by hand. She also had to be able to write old cursive, and she frequently used the old style of cursive. She was a Christian and her Bible included many notes. She was an avid reader and collected books. She wanted to be a school teacher. Helen attended college but did not ultimately work outside the home. She had tested at the genius level but loved simple things such as cooking, gardening and family. Her education helped as she volunteered at the Atascadero Historical Society and the Museum. She also worked on genealogy for the Day family. What was said about her most was that she was incredibily kind and highly intelligent. Photos exist. Obituaries with the Atascadero News and with the San Luis Obispo Tribune list names Maynard Farnsworth as spouse, daughter Carol Tolerton, sons' names, her brothers names as Robert Anstess and Fletcher Anstess. Grandchildren are not mentioned by name.
