MAJOR PHILIP B. TALIAFERRO
Major Philip B. Taliaferro, United States Army, retired, died Saturday at Walter Reed Hospital after a long illness.
Major Taliaferro, whose military service began as a corporal of Battery B, First Field Artillery, Virginia National Guard, was promoted to the rank of major shortly before his retirement in 1935.
He was born in Gloucester County on December 31, 1891, and graduated from Rock Hill College, Md., in 1913. He was a corporal in the Virginia National Guard from June 9, 1916, to March 15, 1917, and a sergeant in the same organization from July 3 to August 4, 1917. On August 5 of that year he was commissioned second lieutenant.
On November 17, 1918, he was commissioned first lieutenant, Coast Artillery Corps, United States Army, vacating this commission on September 4, 1920, to accept the same rank in the regular army. He was promoted to the rank of major on August 1, 1935, and retired September 30 of the same year.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Anna M. Taliaferro of Silver Springs, Md.; a daughter, Mary Louise Taliaferro, and a son, Philip B. Taliaferro, Jr.
Funeral services for Major Taliaferro were held in Norfolk.
