Heat Unbalances Retired Farmer: Commits Suicide

Lyman S. Walker Ends His Life After an Attack of Summer Heat.

Lyman S. Walker, 69 years old, of 1003 East Edison street, a retired farmer committed suicide shortly after 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon by shooting himself with a sawed off shotgun. It is believed he was mentally unbalanced. Three years ago he suffered from a sunstroke, and it is thought the hot weather was responsible for another attack which caused him to commit the rash deed.

Used Neighbors Gun.
The gun used by the unfortunate man was one owned by D. Kincaid who was a neighbor. He kept it in his garage and had it sawed off so it might fit beneath the seat of his automobile. There was only one shell in the gun, according to the information, and Walker found this.

Before he killed himself, he called to his wife. She heard the call and started to answer it, on her way to him when the gunshot was heard. Mrs. Walker rushed to her husband only to find that he had succeeded in killing himself.

Was Mentally Unbalanced.
Investigation later by Dr. Pearn, county coroner resulted in a decision of suicide owing to the mental and other affairs were such as to lead officials to believe that no other motive prompted him to kill himself.

The body was taken to the Jackson Undertaking company where funeral arrangements were made. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery. A.D. Maffit of the Bible students will be in charge of the services.

He leaves his wife and one daughter.
