Vernon Rodney Poe 88 died at Hamilton Aug. 29, 2003. Funeral services were held Aug. 31, in the Evant Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Marrs officiating. James Baize delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in Hurst Ranch Cemetery at Star.

Mr. Poe was born July 29, 1915 on a farm near Star, Texas to R.L. (Bob) and Rosa Bashears Poe.

He was a farmer and stockman, living on the farm that he was born on as long as his health permitted. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was married to Bertha Mae Baker on Oct. 27, 1934. She preceded him in death on April 20, 1993. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Rosa, two brothers Avery and Elvis and by two sisters Ruby and Lena.

Survivors include his two sons, Gerald and his wife Marsa of Gatesville and Douglas and his wife Wanda of Lorena; grandsons, Chance and Evan of Lorena, Darren of Eastland; granddaughters, Shelley of Los Alamos, NM; great- granddaughters Jordan, McKenna, Sydney of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Katilin and Brianna of Eastland; great-grandson Will of Los Alamos, New Mexico and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Flippen, Kirby Moore, Stanley Stanford, Chance Poe, Roland Poe and Roy Smith.
