Walter Justin Taylor was born Dec 16, 1899 in Pierson, Woodbury Co., IA. When the Rosebud country opened up for settlement in 1904, he and his family came to Gregory County and bought a farm a half mile west of Bonesteel where his family was engaged in raising Shorthorn cattle. Walter never married. He attended Bonesteel Public School and graduated in 1918. He is a veteran of World War I and World War II. Walter and his brother Ray were associated with their father in the farming operation and raising Shorthorn Cattle.

When his father retired in 1926, Walter and his brother Paul took over the family farm and cattle operation. Walter Justin lived with his brother Paul at the farm west of Bonesteel, later moving into town in Bonesteel across the street and about a block north of his father and mother's house.

Walter Justin Taylor died Mar 1, 1976 at the Burke Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy illness.and is buried in St. Mary Cemetery in Bonesteel, SD next to his parents Walter Llewelyn Taylor and Mary O'Connel Taylor. The funeral was conducted at the Immaculate Conception Chuch in Bonesteel by Father Jude Blaszcyk. Pallbearers were Robert Taylor of Huron (a nephew), Marvin Humpal of Butte, Ne. (his niece Alice (Bailey) Humpal's spouce). Ray Schmitz of Naper, Ne. ( spouce of his niece Irma (Bailey) Schmitz), Joe Vondrak Jr. of Hinton, Iowa ( a nephew), Edgar Bailey of Bonesteel ( a nephew), and Tom Bailey of Bonesteel (a nephew). Alter Boys were Jay Schmitz and Scott Humpall from Naper, Ne ( a great nephew). His parents, brother Paul, sister in law Nora, sister Nellie and brother in-law Eslie Bailey are all buried in the same cemetery.
