As loving friends and grief stricken relatives were Sunday afternoon attending the funeral of one of the city's noted women, Miss Mary Lyndon, the finger of death touched another woman of the city who was greatly beloved and also distinguished in education when Miss Basailine Prince was summoned and passed peacefully to her reward.
Miss Prince had not been in good health for several months but no fears were entertained by her relatives and friends of her condition. Saturday she was up and down town but upon returning home, suffered from an attack of exhaustion and Sunday afternoon at 3:30 succumbed to the developments of a heart attack.
She was 68 years old and was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Oliver H Prince of this city who died many years ago. Her mother was a Miss Jackson and her families on both sides were prominent in the affairs of the state and county. Her grandfather, Oliver H Prince, Sr, lost his life on the ship "Home" when a member of the Hodgson family was also lost at sea, being members of a party returning from England where they went in the interest of the Old Botanical gardens here. Prince avenue was named for him.
Miss Prince took a great interest in education and the work of Miss Mildred Rutherford in gathering and preserving the records and history of the Confederacy. She was secretary of the Alumnse society of Lucy Cobb at the time of her death and for many past years and was on the executive committee and hundreds of Lucy Cobb allumna will read with sorrow of her death. She is survived by one sister, Mrs Jordan Thomas of Charlotte, N C, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Following her own request the body will be removed from the home on Meigs street by Dorsey's funeral parlors Monday afternoon to Emmanuel Episcopal church, of which she was a life long member and there lie until removed to the cemetery.
