Services for Mrs. Dorothy Ballard Beard, 83, of Tyler, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Green Acres Baptist Church chapel with Dr. Darryle Dunks officiating. Burial will precede at the Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors, Tyler.

Mrs. Beard passed away Jan. 13, 2008, in Tyler. She was born June 4, 1924, in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Martin Boling Ballard and Maude Esther Cullen Ballard. She has lived in Tyler since 1988 and formerly of Sherman, Houston, Honolulu, Hawaii, and several other places abroad. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a member of Green Acres Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Women's Bible Class and also the St. Paul's Methodist Bible Study. She loved playing golf, where she was a member of the Willow Brook Country Club.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Ballard.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Mabry Beard of Tyler; daughters, Connie B. Lipsey of Bryan, Barbara B. Chonko and husband Larry of Waco, Jenny B. Garner and husband Russ of Memphis, Tenn.; brother, John Martin Ballard of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, June Weeks and Jeane Keenum, both of Orlando, Fla., and Caroline Bell of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers are John Smith, Weldon Hicks, John Ballard, Jack Weeks, Gorman Ritchie, Jimmy Cobb, Paul Chonko, Russell Garner and the Women's Bible Class at Green Acres Baptist Church.

Family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home, 6-8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Library at Green Acres Baptist Church.
